How To Access Mac On The Same Network

Looked around on here, but couldn't find anything regarding this. If I missed something, please let me know.

I need to access (be able to look at files, folders, etc.) another computer that is on the same network as my own. I've read about using telnet or ssh, but they mentioned you need to have the login name and password of the computer... Problem is I do not and (due to social matters) cannot ask for the user's login name and password.

With this said:

• Is there anyway to gain access to the computer without the login name and password?


• Is Telnet or SSH the best (we're both on Macs)?

If I'm missing anything else I should know about doing this, please tell me.
