Implementing Botnet Detection System

I am a newbie in area of computer security,comfortable with c,c++,python,Java.

I want to develop botnet detection system by taking ideas from research papers. I have read a lot of research papers collected many ideas ,however i am not able to get started with coding.

If anyone in community had had ever an experience on developing the same,kindly share your ideas/resource to do it in right way...
