Books after Hacking: The Art of Exploitation

Im just reading Hacking: The art of Exploitation and started to wonder about a few things because its now nearly 6 years old:

What changed? For example, this book still had 32 Bit memory and the notesearch.c wont even work anymore because of modern Buffer-Overflow prevention and ASLR. Also it focuses mainly on C which, with all respect, isnt really used anymore because of its security issues. I researched a little bit on this topic and heard a little bit of DEP/ROP, although Im not experienced enough to really know what that is.

Long story short: What would be recommended to get me up to date after this book? Im guessing some RE books, Java Exploitation because its often used and I guess the JVM makes exploiting totally different than Im learning in this book? Or easier, are the more up to date books about the same topic as HAoE?
