DNS leaks using tor with instant messanger

What does it mean for me? When i use Jabber with tor will my ISP see to which jabber server i am connecting ? In that case only DNS crypt would help or VPN, right?

I got the impression using DNS crypt servers was slowing down everything, can that be right?
