origin of side channel attacks

I want to know what is the origin of side channel attacks? It is related to the algorithm or it is related to the implementation?

In the other word does the software responsible for this attack or the hardware is?

I mean, does we have any cryptography algorithm that is resistant against side channel attack on system A, but is not resistant against side channel attack on System B?

We call algorithms side channel resistant or hardware?
