Web app and database on same server, what is benefit of encrypting database data?

If Web app and database on same server, what is security benefit of encrypting database data?

Obviously passwords should be hashed in anycase.

I suppose if attacker can inject some sql or server code he might be able to view database data?

Im just wondering if somebody could more precisely outline the security implications?
