Are there any ways to Track Mobile phones like Shown in Telivisions?

Are there Really some ways to get Geo-Location of a Mobile phone?? i ve seen in Many TV Programs of Crimes, like "Sawdhan India" and "Crime Patrol" I live in India, and in many episodes of some are clearly mentioned that the Police Force catches a Criminal thorugh obtaining their Location through Mobile Phone, A criminal Calls a person, the person gives the no. to the Police or sometimes the Police were tracking their number, and if they get the no. of the caller, they Trace the location, So my question here is, is this Possible??
