OpenVPN connected to company wifi, immediately lose internet access

As the title states the following is the case. I have no 4g or 3g internet on my ipad mini. I travel a lot and use the public wifi with login information at various locations during my work. I however use my Ipad mini on brakes for personal means and always make a point to use OpenVPN to connect to any wifi I use. Point is, as soon as I connect to TCP ports 80 and 443 using OpenVPN my internet becomes inaccessible. the OpenVPN connection will stay but I cant use internet on anything (apps, safari). Internet is immediately restored when I turn off the OpenVPN connection. Connecting to UDP2500 or any other package simply fails outright, OpenVPN can not connect to these using the public wifi and the server times out.

I have reinstalled the packages of the OpenVPN app, reinstalled the app and even removed the wifi profile and reinstalled that. Nothing works. Strangely enough it used to work, just not anymore.Im using free vpnbook profiles.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? If this cannot be solved using OpenVPN or the profiles I use, any suggestions how to solve this?
