Unrestricted file upload on a cloud based platform

We have an unsecured file upload for the user to upload any file they want, our application is Azure based so they are stored as blobs.

Could malicious code be executed from blob storage if the file was originally an executable or a script of some kind? Like on a traditional server for example.

Or is it safe to assume this couldn't be done due to the situation?
